Ottawa Hills Instructional Template

A Success – Our Instructional Planning Template

Our Instructional Leadership Team knew that good solid planning was fundamental in the development of a quality lesson, so last year we developed a lesson plan template to help our teachers in their planning.

Our template is based on UbD and incorporates many research-based instructional strategies as well as school initiatives.  We presented it to our staff at the beginning of the school year with samples and gave then an electronic version.  Throughout the year, we received a lot of positive feedback from our staff, and many have now found it essential to their planning of lessons for the week.  As an ILT, we have found through Instructional Rounds and Learning Walks that teachers using the template have very well-thought out lessons and show effective delivery of content.  We are excited to continue using the template this year and plan to present it to new staff in the Fall.

We were recently asked to present our template at the Michigan Fellowship of Instructional Leaders and received some great feedback from people there as well.  It is our hopes that other schools will be able to use this tool to help their teachers plan more effectively.

Above is a sample of the first page of the template, if you would like more information please contact us!
